OK, here's what was in the first fall basket of the year:
milk (and a small bottle of chocolate milk)
Cheese
2 pounds pork sausage
Grits
Sweet potatoes
Bok Choy
Apples (I think they may be Arkansas Black apples)
Muscadines
Squash (both a zucchini type and a Butternut)
Bread
Salad Mix
Shitakes
Apple Jelly
We also stopped by one of the tables and bought some green tomatoes, which were "oven fried" with some BBQ chicken last night. Our first meal that was basket based was some pork pot stickers and bok choy with a spicy dressing. The pot stickers came out incredibly well (I added ginger, garlic, scallions and some garlic chili paste with a bit of mirin to the sausage before filling the wrappers). Tomorrow is probably going to be a Cresent Dragonwagon deal (a ragout of veg including some purple hull peas from the freezer from the last basket and some turnip greens, tomatoes, and shitakes) over polenta.
Saturday we spent helping a friend pack up some things (large drama there), and Sunday was spent working and fighting Indian Meal Moths. That bag of Masa Harina that was a bit too old led to quite the infestation. I've just about got them all eradicated. Did you know they don't care for bay leaves? I've lined the back of my cabinets with them along the seams (I have a huge bag of bay leaves, so it was worth a try).
