This seminar, we really have to get a solid footing on our first essay. In this podcast, I discuss the following:
- When grades for Seminar 1 will be finalized (no later than Monday at 11:59 pm EST).
- Some highlights of the reading. Specifically, I'll talk about some of the resources in our text for picking a good topic for an argumentative position paper.
- How I'd like us to focus in discussion this seminar, and how we can use the sample papers in our book to our advantage. Pages referenced from our Baker College Composition include page 617 (Written arguments), page 628 (Mapping controversies), and page 635 (how to test your issue).
- The homework assignment and how it can help us with our own papers and peer review.
- I also introduce our embedded librarian. Note that our current librarian is Patrick, not Jim (Jim was great and moved on to a graduate program last fall).
- Note that this podcast was recorded in a previous term. Statements about revising the diagnostic at the start of the podcast no longer apply to this course, as we no longer allow revisions of that assignment.
